If you can't beat him, join him.

omg! What have I done? I never thought this would happen in a MILLION years!

I joined.......World of Warcraft.

After a free trial a couple of months ago, Jim went out and bought me a prepaid game card. The only problem is that the prepaid game card is only valid on an already paid-for account! So we had to agree for the Borg, uh, Blizzard Entertainment, to charge us $19.99 for one month! ARGH!

BUT.........

You won't believe what happened after that.

Jim ACTUALLY talked with me! A lot! More than he has spoken with me in months! Ok, ok, maybe not that much. But, he started talking. Excitedly! All about the game, of course, but at least he was speaking with me!

So, is this the answer? I've tried not to be subtle. I've said "You don't speak to me any more." "I get lonely when you're on the computer." "Maybe tomorrow I'LL take the night off!" (that's when I was mad b/c he wasn't helping me with the girls....)

Does this mean I have to become a WoW (World of Warcraft) junkie now to see my husband? I have to sheepishly admit that the game is somewhat intriguing. I'm a Night Elf Rogue. My name is Moonlalei. (Moon-la-lee) I'm really proud of the name. I came up with it all by myself. I thought it sounded kind of Warcraft-ish. A cross between old world and fantasy.

Well, I guess I did what the old saying said to do. If you can't beat them, join them!

Oh, my! I'm....speechless!

Actually, we know another couple who has done the same thing, but she had to buy him a *new laptop* because he kept borrowing hers because it did better with WOW, etc etc etc.

Interestingly enough, I did set up a character on Mark's account, but then did absolutely nothing with it.

What could I possibly add to this? Oh yeah, I am the envy of my married guildmates now. I could add that.

Jim got me a new laptop for Christmas. And then proceeded to "borrow" it.... So when we sold the organ, we used some of the proceeds to buy him a new computer. We're all one big happy family now!

I have a level 70 Human Paladin and a level 70 Blood Elf Rogue. For god's sake reroll now before it's too late. Night elf is the WORST race for a rogue, with the possible exception of troll. If you insist on being alliance, reroll human because perception can be game breaking in player versus player, or gnome because escape artist is also a very powerful racial. Night Elves have shadowmeld (stealth=invisible) but as rogues can already stealth, it's bascially useless.
That's my hardcore perspective, but if you don't like PvP Night Elves are fine I guess. Problem would be if you get to 70 and discover you like PvP (rogues are the best PvP class) then you're stuck with a leveled Nelf.
Anyway wow is fun so enjoy.

Hmmmm. I didn't know that. I did chose the Night Elf Rogue for the stealth abilities. Jim didn't tell me it would be pointless to do that..... :) I opened up another trial account (long story) and set up a Human Mage. This one is cool b/c it uses magic and you can hit people from farther back. I was already planning to set up a second character as a mage.

I wish it wasn't all fighting. I wish I could just be a cook or something. I guess the game is called "World of WARcraft" for a reason.

And the chances of me hitting Level 70, well.......

(Confidential to Holly: For the record, I only understood about 20% of what he said. I'm still VERY new at this. Also, as Jim mentioned, now I even got MARK to talk to me! You should set up an account, too! Just think of the communication possibilities! haha!)

Yeah when you first make a character usually you don't consider racial abilities, but they become very important later in the game. Most people will say for example, hands down, Undead is best for a PvP because they have will of the forsaken, which allows you to cancel a fear spell cast on you.

For a mage human isn't bad but gnome is probably better again in PvP as the gnome ability escape artist (breaks a snare such as hamstring or crippling poison). All I do with my characters is PvP so racials are the first thing I think about when making a character.

I made an unpopular choice on my rogue, a Blood Elf, because I don't have the fear breaking racial. But I've seen the 2 second silence blood elfs have break games too.

You can hit 70 in 5-8 days played if you follow leveling guides. I did it on my rogue in about 6 or 7 days played, but I messed around and PvPed for awhile during leveling.

I also leveled some professions, which can be fun when you get tired of fighting all the time. I have almost maxed cooking, have very high skill on fishing, and have maxxed enchanting and jewelcrafting on my rogue. My paladin has maxxed skill blacksmithing and engineering.

When I get tired of fighting I go fishing or prospect ore for gems, cut them, and sell them for a profit. You can make lots of gold fishing too. Also WoW has seasonal events. I've made tons of gold doing Midsummer Festival Events, and they can get you some neat items. A great wow websites is www.wowinsider.com, it does a great job at putting the game in context and it speaks with a beginners voice.

For example you can level fishing. Fun if you do just a little bit at a time. There is a daily quest you can do at 70. http://www.wowwiki.com/Fishing
I got this cute rare pet as a drop from the quest reward a few weeks back:
